After enjoying the car show with his girlfriend, Brad Ginther’s evening took a drastic turn on the way home.

Shortly before 7pm, the couple was walking up Trepanier Road when another man drove by them, parked his car and began running towards a home on Desert Pines Avenue.

It didn’t take long for Ginther to realize that the man was running towards the house because it was on fire.

“All of a sudden we're walking up the hill and it just happened,” he told NowMedia. “So I didn't even really think, I just went."

The two men scouted out the home for a way in, but eventually Ginther’s adrenaline took over and he kicked in the front door to gain entry.

In the kitchen, Ginther found a man trying to fight what looked to be a barbeque fire through the kitchen window.

The fire had only been going for a few minutes, but it had already spread to the window and was moving into the home.

Along with their dog, the male and female occupants of the home left with Ginther and the other bystander who had rushed to the scene to help.

The woman briefly ran back into the home to get her purse, while the man quickly moved his car out of the garage, but Ginther said the fire spread quickly throughout the home after that.

More than 20 firefighters from the Peachland Fire Department arrived on scene and they were able to put the flames out.

Ginther offered the man and woman a place to stay, but they told him they have friends and family in the area and would be okay.

"I'm just happy everybody's okay and I'm happy that nobody lost any animals,” Ginther said of the incident. “Hopefully they have insurance. Things can be replaced, but lives can't."

Fortunately for those homeowners, the damage is covered by their insurance.
