KelownaNow readers have submitted a few pictures showing the Starlink satellites moving across the Okanagan sky this weekend.
One reader claims they saw at least “30 satellites in a long formation moving through the sky” while walking their dog along the beach in Kelowna.
Another saw closer to 25 “bright lights” at Sarsons Beach in the Mission.
These bizarre lights are the result of Elon Musk’s company SpaceX launching Starlink which is a large satellite system that aims to provide global high-speed internet service.
As of September 2022 they are working to launch between 30 and 50 satellites into low-earth orbit once a week.
The launches happen at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
According to the FindStarLink website, which is dedicated to providing estimates for the satellites’ locations, the lights may not be as visible over the next five days due to conditions.
However, the next sighting is anticipated to happen at about 7:26 pm on Sunday, Oct. 2.
Residents are advised to look from northwest to the east to catch a glance at the formation.
