UPDATE: 2 bodies found in Summerland believed to be connected to stolen car in Abbotsford

(UPDATE: Aug. 9 @ 4:15 pm) – Investigators now believe that two individuals found in a burned out vehicle near Summerland over the weekend died as a result of foul play.

The Southeast District Major Crime Unit took over the investigation of two bodies found on Garnet Valley Road on Saturday (Aug. 6).

A stolen vehicle that is believed to be associated with the homicide was located in the Lower Mainland the next day.

On Sunday, at about 4 pm, police in Abbotsford located the stolen vehicle, a 1991 white Acura Integra, and attempted to stop the vehicle.

However, during the pursuit, the vehicle lost control and crashed.

A female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and the male driver later died in the hospital.

The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO BC) is now investigating the incident in Abbotsford.

Meanwhile, the investigation into the homicide in the Okanagan continues as investigators work to confirm the victim's identities and “the extent of the stolen vehicle’s involvement.”


(Original story: Aug. 7 @ 7:08 am) – An investigation has begun after two bodies were found inside a burned vehicle in Summerland on Saturday.

On Aug. 6, the Summerland Fire Department was responding to a vehicle fire on Garnet Valley Road when they discovered the remains.

The department notified the Summerland RCMP. Officers attended the scene and confirmed the report.

The incident was turned over to the Southeast District Major CrimeUnit (SED MCU).

Now, the SED MCU is working with the Summerland and Penticton RCMP as well as the BC Coroners Service to determine the cause of death.

Police in the South Okanagan are asking that anyone with dash cam footage or any other information about suspicious activity in the Garnet Valley Road area to contact the SED MCU at 1-877-987-8477.
