UPDATE: Kelowna man arrested in relation to shooting in Peachland last weekend

(Update: Aug. 17 @ 6 a.m.): On Friday afternoon the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called upon to assist with the arrest of a suspect, whom police allege to be responsible for the shooting carried out early Sunday (August 11) evening south of Peachland.

On August 11, 2019 at about 5:47 p.m., West Kelowna RCMP received a report of shooting that took place outside a residence located in the 7200-block of Highway 97 south of Peachland.

The adult male victim, was treated and later released from hospital after suffering a gun shot wound. He continues to recover from his injury at this time.

“As a direct result of the actions of our front line officers at the scene, and the continued investigation led by the West Kelowna RCMP GIS team, a prime suspect was identified by police,” states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the Kelowna Regional RCMP Detachment.

“That suspect was taken into police custody, Friday afternoon in West Kelowna, with the assistance of the RCMP Southeast District Emergency Response Team.”

The 31-year-old West Kelowna man remains in police custody at this time and faces a number of potential charges.

RCMP are searching for a suspect after a daytime shooting just south of Peachland on Sunday.

Officers were called to a residence in the 7200 block of Hwy 97 around 5:45 pm for reports of the shooting.

Upon arrival, they located a man with an apparent gunshot wound to his lower body and he was quickly transported to hospital.

The suspect managed to flee the scene before the police arrived.

“Although the man’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening in nature, there could have been a very different outcome,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“Early indicators suggest that the incident was isolated in nature, and police do not believe that the general public is at further risk.”

The suspect was wearing a black t-shirt at the time of the shooting and reportedly had his face covered.
