North Westside Fire Rescue is getting a new paid-on-call chief.

Alex Van Bruksvoort is joining the crew on June 14.

Van Bruksvoort, who lives in Vernon, served for 26 years with the Richmond fire department before retiring as a captain.

RDCO Fire Services manager Ross Kotscherofski said he’s pleased to have someone with such credentials “take on the administrative leadership and management of the North Westside department.”

He added: “His fire inspection, investigation and prevention expertise will definitely complement the fire suppression experience of North Westside fire members. He’s ready to act as a mentor and build the department skills even further.”

North Westside Fire Rescue is one of four paid-on-call fire departments at the Regional District that also provide medical first response and fire protection aid for the Ellison, Joe Rich and Wilson’s Landing areas.
