Okanagan College business students are looking for volunteers to help harvest fruit from local orchards to be dehydrated into healthy snacks for local children and people in need.

Fruit Snaps was launched in 2018 and is a Vernon and Penticton based project coordinated by Enactus OC students and the North Okanagan Gleaners Society facility.

Since 2018, this project has prevented an estimated 42,000 pounds of apples from being wasted by transforming them into 75,000 servings of a healthy snack for over 4,000 people.

According to the statement, “this has had an environmental impact of saving almost nine million litres of water and 85 tonnes of C02 emissions.”

The volunteer sessions will be happening at the orchard at 10168 Grey Rd. in Coldstream.

These sessions will occur during these times:

The organizers assure possible volunteers that current public health regulations will be followed.

Physical distancing and mask wearing will be in place while volunteers are asked to do a personal health check and not attend if they are sick or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
