A volunteer organization that devotes itself to cleaning up the Okanagan backcountry is hosting a meet and greet fundraiser next month.

The Okanagan Forest Task Force (OFTF) is inviting anyone who is curious about what they do, or wants to support them, to the event at AH Repair (391 Tilley Rd.) on April 15, from 10 am until 4 pm.

There will be raffle prizes donated from local stores, hot dogs to eat and a bouncy castle for the kids. You can also purchase OFTF hats and shirts as well.

“We hope to see a good turnout for the event and meet new people to let them know what we are all about,” said OFTF founder Kane Blake.

“We are expecting to have a very busy summer and have many clean ups planned already. Our dive team led by Ajay Weintz is already gearing up to hit the water as well.”

Since Blake founded the OFTF in August 2016, the constantly-growing group has removed more than 580,000 pounds of garbage and metal from the Okanagan backcountry.

Blake and company are currently working on a documentary that shines a light on the OFTF’s work and the growing issue of illegal dumping, not only in the Okanagan but all over the world.
