Baldy Mountain located near Penticton has closed its Sugarlump chairlift due to security reasons related to an ex-employee.

According to the resort, a police investigation has been opened into the former employee regarding several infractions including stolen records.

On Monday, an inspector with Technical Safety BC arrived on the mountain to assist with the investigation, however, resort officials are tight-lipped on the matter.

The resort did say that it’s working with experts in chairlift mechanics to ensure all the lifts are safe and that the lifts have been inspected and are operating within code regulations.

A Nancy Greene Race was cancelled on the weekend following the sudden closure of one of the mountains two chairlifts.

South Okanagan RCMP have confirmed officials are investigating the situation but no arrests have been made.

The chairlift is expected to reopen.
