The human remains found inside a torched vehicle in the North Okanagan last month have been identified.
Following an autopsy, the body has been identified as 27-year-old Erin Chelsea Borgford, who was living in Whitehorse at the time of her death.
The grisly discovery of her remains was made when the RCMP was called to a vehicle fire on Louis Estates Road, just off Westside Road, around 5:15 am on Sunday, Sept. 20.
Her death has now been deemed a homicide.
The Southeast District Major Crime Unit is in charge of the investigation and is seeking the public’s assistance to find some answers.
Anyone who saw Borgford or the grey 2014 Nissan Rogue that she was driving on Saturday, Sept. 19 is asked to contact police.
Investigators have provided a selfie taken by Borgford that she took on Sept. 19, as well as a stock photo of the vehicle in question.
Borgford did have a history with police, as she was charged alongside two others with possession of heroin with the purpose of trafficking in Whitehorse back in March.
In addition, anyone with vehicle dash cam footage of the area of Westside Road close to where she was found in the hours leading up to the discovery of her body is asked to contact authorities as well.
