UPDATE: Okanagan man arrested for murder after woman found dead in her home

(UPDATE: April 15 @ 5:12 am): An Okanagan man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman who was found dead in her home last month. 

Justin Johnston, 42, appeared in court on Tuesday after being accused of murdering 62-year-old Joy Morris in Vanderhoof. 

Morris was found dead in her home on March 9 when Mounties attended for a wellbeing check. 

Investigators later confirmed she had been murdered.

Johnston was arrested on Friday, April 10 in the South Okanagan, where he had recently moved. 

The RCMP said the duo knew each other. 

They do not believe there is a further risk to the public. 

(Original story: March 11 @ 1 pm): Mounties are investigating the death of a woman in Vanderhoof. 

She was found on March 9 just before 2 pm, police said. 

Officers had been called to a home to check on her wellbeing. 

When they arrived, they found her dead. 

The death appeared suspicious, police said, and the North District Major Crime Unit was called to investigate. 

“At this time, it is believed that all people involved are known to each other,” police said.
