There’s a heavy police presence on the east end of Lake Country this afternoon.

Shortly before 3 pm, residents started to report that the RCMP and Southeast Emergency Response Team (SERT) were surrounding a residence on Copper Hill Place.

Police confirmed to KelownaNow that officers are “investigating an incident contained to a single location” on the street.

“Further details will be made available if and when necessary,” added Cpl. Michael Gauthier.

In a Lake Country community group on Facebook, multiple residents have said they’ve been told they are not permitted to leave their homes at the moment.

In addition, police have reportedly told them to stay in their basement and away from windows if possible.

“They told me it would be at least two hours,” one woman wrote. “They are in full tactical gear and everything so it’s a big incident happening.”

KelownaNow will update this story as more information becomes available.
