Gardening season is in full swing and if you’re partaking, there’s a good chance you have a number of plastic flower pots and plant trays lying around.
If you don’t plan on reusing them, the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) wants to remind you that they can all be recycled.
All you’re asked to do is rinse or wipe the dirt out and you can put those plastics in your recycling cart or take them to your nearest recycling depot.
“Most plastic packaging is accepted in the curbside recycling program, and these plastics from your plants are no different,” says Rae Stewart, waste reduction facilitator.
“As for those little tags that identify the plants, those need to go in the garbage, they are not part of the recycling program.”
Deanne Stephenson, manager of Cascades Recovery, says it is important to keep the plastics clear of dirt, wooden stakes, metal twist ties or any other contaminants.
She adds that ceramic pots, tarps, plastic furniture, garden hoses and plastic string or rope are not accepted as recyclable material.
