As more and more people head outdoors, search and rescue teams across the BC Interior are keeping busy with rescue tasks.

On Saturday, the Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) team was called out to help with the rescue of an injured snowmobiler.

The VSAR team responded to the Hunters Range Snowmobile area to search for the person.

The area is about 30 kilometres northeast of Enderby and a popular area for snowmobilers to visit.

Due to the weather conditions and remote location of the site, a local helicopter and VSAR’s sled team had to be called in for back up.

Fortunately, the helicopter was able to access the injured person quickly before the temperature began to drop.

They were excavated from the area and taken to the local hospital.

Although the person became injured while in the backcountry, VSAR says the group of riders was well prepared and were able to keep the rider warm and safe.

“We were assisted on scene by members of the Enderby Fire Department who were riding in the area, as well as by members of the Hunters Range Snowmobile Association,” says VSAR in a statement.

On Friday, a helicopter was also called in to rescue a lost skier from a ski hill in the south Okanagan.
