Tragic boating accident claims life of 6-year-old on Kalamalka Lake

A day on Kalamalka Lake ended in tragedy on Monday.

A North Vancouver family had been out boating and was in the process of returning to the dock around 6 p.m.

When the adult driver turned the boat, a six-year-old child fell overboard and was struck by part of the boat, explained Cpl. Tania Finn of the Vernon RCMP.

The child was rushed to the pier where they were met by emergency personnel.

Efforts to revive the six-year-old, however, were unsuccessful and the child died from their injuries.

Vernon RCMP is assisting the BC Coroner Service at this time and the family is receiving support from Vernon North Okanagan Victim Services.
