The University of British Columbia (UBC) has decided to extend the winter break for both of its campuses.
Santa J. Ono, president and vice-chancellor, announced the news this week.
Ono said that students in Vancouver and in the Okanagan will resume classes in most programs on Jan. 11, 2021.
“The hope is that by allowing a delayed start to classes, we can help our students, faculty and staff to better prepare for Winter Session Term 2,” Ono said.
He added that certain programs cannot accommodate a delayed start, so some programs will be starting on Jan. 4, 2021.
Both campuses have also changed their examination schedules to ensure examinations are still completed in April.
For UBC Okanagan, this primarily means moving to four examination times per day, and for UBC Vancouver those examinations may be held on Sundays.
Faculty and staff will be expected to return to work as normal on Jan. 4, 2021.
