Wooldridge steps down as RDCO board chair

Kelowna city councillor Loyal Wooldridge has announced that he will be stepping down as the chair of the board for the Regional District of Central Okanagan.

Wooldridge made the announcement at the end of the April 25 meeting and said his resignation will be effective May 22, which is before the next board meeting.

“It’s been a pleasure and an honour to serve as the chair for the past three years,” Wooldridge said.

“I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished together by addressing adversity in times of crisis like the McDougall Creek wildfire and having a unified voice for our region, especially when we created our priorities together.”

Earlier this year Wooldridge announced he intends to seek the BC NDP nomination in the brand new Kelowna-Centre riding.

He said the decision to step down was not required legislatively but he was doing it voluntarily for “transparency and integrity purposes.”

Wooldridge said he intends to remain on the board, however.

Once the RDCO’s corporate officer receives written notice, the board will receive more options on how to move forward, which includes arranging the election for the new chair.

That is expected to happen during the May 23 meeting.
