The District of Summerland is advising its residents to stock up on drinking water this weekend.
A major project will take place between March 3rd and 6th.
The project, Pressure Reducing Valve #10 (PRV10) will require the water to be shut off at the Water Treatment Plant.
The District will provide an alternative water supply through taps for residents to flush toilets and use for showers. The alternative water supply is not drinkable and residents are advised to boil or purchase drinking water.
The Boil Water Notice is in effect from now until March 6th. This ensures enough time for the Interior Health Authority to ensure the water meets Canadian Drinking Standards.
The District recommends bringing water to a rolling boil for one minute before consuming.
“The District is pleased to have the full support of Interior Health for this complex project. It is critical that components of the aging water system are replaced before an unexpected failure occurs that could have a significant impact on the community,” said Mayor Peter Waterman.
A Communications Centre will provide information to the public on Saturday at the Aquatic Centre between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The Summerland Steam hockey team will be volunteering services to elderly folks or those who need assistance during the water project.
