A 21-year-old woman is thankful for emergency services after she was rescued following an injury she suffered in the South Okanagan on Sunday.

According to Penticton Search and Rescue, PENSAR was requested to assist BC Emergency Health Services after they responded to reports of a woman who hurt her leg while in the Wilste Flats Nature Park.

PENSAR did not mention how serious the injury was, though the terrain made it so the woman had to be airlifted out.

"Penticton Fire and SAR responders attended to the scene where it was determined that the best possible evacuation was to airlift the subject out," wrote SAR Manager Randy Brown. "PENSAR flew to the scene with an evacuation team and the subject was transported to the Penticton airport and transferred to an ambulance and then to Penticton Regional Hospital."

The 13 responding SAR members and four firefighters were able to find the injured woman thanks to her companion having the "TrailForks" app. This allowed rescue crews to swiftly identify their location.

Residents are reminded to dress warmly when going out in the winter as emergencies could happen at any time.
