“Imagine your daughter never getting invited to birthday parties, never driving, never graduating, never getting married, never living on her own, or pursuing her dreams. Well, that's profound autism,” Vikki Holmberg writes on her the GoFundMe page titled ABA for Ava.
ABA for Ava is a series of fundraisers for Holmberg's 7-year-old daughter, Ava, so that she is able to receive the Applied Behavior Analysis therapy she needs in order to learn to speak, to better socialize amongst peers and in turn, hopefully, live a more independent life.
According to Special Learning Inc. the cost for ABA per year is upwards of $46,000 - 47,500 per year, at a rate of $120 per hour of Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) consulting services, including average supplementary materials costs.
"We don't have that kind of money, $10,000 isn't going to pay for it all, but it certainly provides more than we currently have," said Holmberg.
The GoFund Me for Ava currently sits at 6,800 of its 10,000 goal and although Holmberg doesn't expect everyone to donate, she asks that readers share her campaign on Facebook.

From July 23rd to 25th, resident’s interested in donating can drop their bottles off at Holmberg's home address, 316 Wade Ave W in Penticton, her husband Don’s business, TechSavers located at 120 535 Main St. or they can contact Vikki on Facebook for pick-up.

“I am just a mother who wants the very best for her daughter, this is a great way for her to have the best because this therapy will allow her to come out of her shell, possibly live an independent life and there is nothing I want more for her than that,” said Holmberg.
