Something's going right when you need to double the size of your wine room.

When the 2018 season ended, Diane and Kon Oh of Mocojo Wines on the Naramata Bench figured it was time for an overhaul.

Their wine room, on the lower level of their family home on Gawne Road, was cute and private. And it adjoined a huge patio and outdoor seating area that offered guests sweeping views of Okanagan Lake.

But it wasn't very big. On busy days, guests had a tough time just shuffling from the door to the counter. Such is the price of success.

So over the winter, they knocked down walls, rerouted electric and water lines, added shelving, and installed a new floor and new window coverings.

The result is a bright and substantially more roomy space that'll comfortably handle a dozen or more people.

The Ohs showed off their efforts Thursday afternoon with an open house designed primarily for industry, friends, and neighbours. The reviews were glowing.

And Diane Oh was understandably upbeat afterward. "The space worked really well today. The flow was great and the acoustics were much improved over previous years. Now we can offer our guests an even better experience than before."

But this wasn't the first time Mocojo changed up their wine room. The first was in 2016, when they upgraded from what Oh calls a "very rustic garage setup."

Mocojo Wines has been in operation for 11 years and began making its own wine with the 2013 harvest. Says Oh, "We have something for everyone. We border more on the dry wine than the sweet wines, but I think the Gewurztraminer and the Merlot have a touch more sweetness."

You can find Mocojo Wines at 1202 Gawne Road in the heart of the Naramata Bench. They'll open for the 2019 season on the 5th of April and maintain a Friday/Saturday/Sunday schedule to May 1st, when they'll open seven days a week.
