(UPDATE: Feb. 6 @ 6:20 am) - The search for a missing senior in the South Okanagan has come to a tragic end.
The Penticton RCMP confirmed Sunday night that 89-year-old Doreen Abbott was found dead over the weekend.
Police have made few details available regarding the discovery of her body, but they did say that criminality is not expected.
"Although the police investigation is continuing there is nothing at this time to suggest Doreen was the victim of a crime," said S/Sgt. Bob Vatamaniuck.
"The family wishes to thank all those that participated in her search and has asked for privacy as they grieve their loss."
(UPDATE: Jan. 31 @ 2:55 pm) – Mounties in Penticton are renewing their plea for information about a missing 89-year-old woman.
Doreen Abbot was reported missing on Friday night after she did not show up at a friend's house.
Police say she suffers from an onset of Dementia and rarely deviates from her routine.
On Saturday, her 1993 Subaru legacy was located on Greyback Mountain Road, however, Abbot was not inside or nearby. Mounties believe the car became stuck in the snow.
“An extensive search of the area where her vehicle was located has continued over the past three days, carried out by both the RCMP and Search and Rescue,” said Cst. James Grandy.
“Unfortunately, Doreen has yet to be located. We’re working closely with Search and Rescue to continue our search.”
People living in the upper and lower Bench Road area and along Naramata Road are asked to check their dash cam footage or home surveillance to check if they captured the car on Jan. 27 between 7-10 pm.
Abbot is 89-years-old, 5’3, about 120 pounds with a thin build. She wears glasses and normally walks with a cane.
Police believe she was last wearing a dark green/blue three-quarter length wool coat, dark green/turquoise sweatpants and black slip on shoes.

(Original story: Jan. 28 @ 12:38 pm) – The Penticton RCMP are asking for the public’s help in locating a missing senior who has not been seen since Friday night.
Doreen Abbot, 89, was supposed to arrive at a friend’s house Friday but did not show up.
In a news release, Doreen is reported to have early onset Dementia but does not usually deviate from her usual routine which makes her disappearance worrisome.
Doreen was last seen driving a green 1993 Subaru Legacy with a BC license plate MXH063.

"If you are seeing this Doreen, please contact us right away,” said Cst Dayne Lyons, Penticton RCMP Media Relations Officer.
“We hope that members of the community will keep an eye out for Doreen or contact us if you know where she may be.”
