(UPDATE: Sept. 24 @ 7:00 pm) - Just 24 hours after Bad Tattoo Penticton announced they would be working around the BC Vaccine Card, they have retracted their statement.
This evening the brewery posted on facebook that they will be checking for vaccination status, and return to normal service as of tomorrow.
"I sincerely apologize to everyone," said Lee Augur, Co-Owner and General Manager of Bad Tattoo Brewing.
"I was trying to be inclusive and make a safe space for everyone to be able to enjoy as that is what the hospitality industry is about, so we went to counter service only like the fast-food establishments, cafes, food courts and cafeterias that many people currently feel safe in and are not requiring vaccine passports."
"We are all concerned vaccinated or not. Many are losing compassion, empathy, understanding and patience, our country is very divided, and these are other tragedies that are trending the wrong way."
Augur also announced that he will be stepping down from management.
"I will be stepping down from management of Bad Tattoo for a while and let the amazing Bad Tattoo Crew continue to make world award winning beer and creative pizzas for you."
(ORIGINAL STORY: Sept. 23 @ 5:53 pm) - The popular brewery downtown Penticton has announced they will be making some changes to their services to ensure that they remain inclusive to everyone, vaccinated or not.
Bad Tattoo Brewing Penticton took to Facebook this afternoon to announce the new changes;
“In an effort to remain inclusive to everyone, we would like to update you on our new service structure. We have changed to a counter service and takeout model and as such will only be able to serve alcohol in our tasting room side of the facility while standing,” said the brewery.
“We apologize to anyone we can’t serve alcohol to in our restaurant side but we will still be serving up our same delicious pizzas with a new non-alcoholic drink menu.”
“As always, everyone is welcome at Bad Tattoo Brewing,” added the company and crew.
As per provincial health orders that came into place on Sept. 12, people dining in must show proof of at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine through the BC Vaccine Card program.
Although, tasting rooms without seating attached to wineries, breweries or distilleries do not require proof of vaccination according to the BC Government.
KelownaNow reached out to Bad Tattoo Kelowna, and they confirmed that they will not be implementing the same service measures.
