UPDATE: RCMP respond to gunshot victim, vehicle fire north of Naramata early this morning

(UPDATE: Oct. 26 @ 2:10 pm) – Early this morning Penticton RCMP responded to a man suffering from a gunshot wound north of Naramata.

Around 7:30 am, officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim outside a residence in the Indian Rock community.

Officers arrived and found a 36 year old male victim who was transferred to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Numerous local and neighbouring RCMP resources, including Air Services and Police Dog Services, were dispatched to the scene and around the community.

Roadblocks were also set up as citizens were directed to stay clear and report any suspicious people or activity.

According to a media release, the man is known to police.

A vehicle on fire was located nearby and is currently being investigated to determine if it is related.

“Investigators are actively gathering evidence, and can confirm this appears to be a targeted shooting, and directly related to the drug subculture,” explains Cst. James Grandy.

“Our officers were on scene within minutes and able to determine this was an isolated, targeted incident and not a random shooting.”

There is no evidence of an ongoing risk and residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the Penticton RCMP.

The investigation is ongoing and no other information has been released at this time.
