Another fave is returning to the Penticton Peach Festival.

Festival organizers announced Monday afternoon that the Canadian Armed Forces Parachute Team more commonly known as the SkyHawks will once again perform their aerobatic magic on opening day, jumping from presumably blue skies over Penticton into Okanagan Lake Park at 6 pm, Wednesday, Aug 9, 2023.

According to today's media release, the Skyhawks have represented Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces for "over 50 years" to "over 75 million spectators worldwide."

As witness to three straight opening day Skyhawks performances, PentinctonNow can confidently add that some of the most pronounced crowd reactions of the entire five-day event are reserved for those few minutes between first open parachute and final touchdown, right in the middle of the park.

On the way down, some of the Skyhawks members will unfurl and display massive flags and banners. Others will stream colourful smoke. And most of them will assemble into spectacular formations.

It's not a particularly long show but it’s always thrilling.

No word yet if the Skyhawks will make a return appearance at another old stomping ground, the Jennifer Casey Memorial Peach Bin Races at noon on opening day. We hope so. Their involvement always tweaks the excitement level.
