The man suspected of shooting and killing four people in Penticton on Monday has been identified and charged.
John Brittain, 68, is facing three counts of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder.
The British Columbia Prosecution Service handed down the charges today and Brittain was remanded into custody after a brief appearance in Penticton provincial court this morning.
He's due to appear in court again on Wednesday, May 8.
According to police, the shootings began around 10:30 a.m. on Monday when a 71-year-old man was killed outside a duplex in downtown Penticton.
Brittain then allegedly drove about five kilometres to a second location where three others were attacked.
Investigators say the motive for the shootings is still undetermined.
RCMP Supt. Ted De Jager called the attacks a "dark day" for the city and added that they were "not random."
BCPS spokesman Dan McLaughlin says the names of the victims are still being withheld pending notification of relatives.
According to documents from the City of Penticton, Brittain used to serve as a development technician for the City and was making a salary of more than $87,000 a year.
