After a campaign that seemed to dip in support, Gregor Robertson will stay in his seat as Mayor of Vancouver.
Robertson received 83,529 votes, over 10,000 more than his leading challenger, Kirk LaPointe of NPA, or the Non-Partisan Association. Robertson's party, Vision Vancouver, also received six out of 10 councillor seats.
Before the election, Robertson warned that the NPA was too conservative and would take Vancouver backwards. “They are not worth the risk,” said Robertson. He reached out to more left-wing voters, including those who were thinking of voting for COPE.
Menawhile, LaPointe criticized Robertson for not listening to the citizens, asking voters, “Do you want four more years of apologies for failed promises, the creation of a fortress mentality at City Hall and rigid ideology that guides policies affecting your daily life?”
This is Robertson's third term as mayor. He was originally elected in 2008.
All numbers are preliminary until made official by Chief Election Officers.
