Original Story:

The Revelstoke RCMP confirms that once person has died as a result of a two semi accident on the Trans-Canada Highway.

At approximately 8:45 p.m. on Monday evening RCMP, Revelstoke Fire Rescue , the BC Ambulance Service and tow and flagging companies responded to an accident between two commercial vehicles. According to Sgt Kurt Grabinsky a tractor trailer super B semi was travelling west bound when it jackknifed and crossed into oncoming traffic.

An oncoming tractor trailer struck the jackknifed semi, causing major damage and serious injury to the driver. The east bound driver died at the scene and no names have been released following notification of next of kin.

The accident happened approximately 20 kilometres west of Revelstoke and closed the highway for almost 10 hours.

“Currently the tow companies are still actively removing the trucks and trailers from the roadway. One unit was hauling cut lumber and this load is all over the road. Fuel spills are being addressed,” said Sgt Grabinsky.

The estimated time of opening by DriveBC is between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. as the highway is still closed in both directions.
