The incident involving a Kamloops RCMP officer is still under investigation. The name of the officer has not been released but is described as a 40 year old male with 13 years of experience on the Kamloops RCMP team.

The father of two is in critical but stable condition; he remains in the intensive care unit of the Royal Inland Hospital with his wife and family by his side.

During a traffic stop early Wednesday morning, the officer was shot as he approached a white Chrysler Intrepid on Bachelor Drive and North River Drive. He was dressed in full operational uniform, including a bullet proof vest.

After the initial shot was fired, the assisting officer fired a shot in retaliation. Two separate RCMP vehicles were in attendance at the scene.

Following the incident, Kamloops RCMP deployed resources and set up barriers in an attempt to apprehend the shooter. RCMP reminds motorists that there may be delays due to blocked roadways during this ongoing investigation.

The registered owner of the vehicle has been identified and approached however, RCMP did not confirm if the vehicle was stolen.

Kamloops RCMP have a few suspects in mind although further details have yet to be disclosed.

Pending the ongoing investigation, Kamloops RCMP will not release any details on the incident.

“This is a dynamic investigation,” said RCMP Supt. Brad Mueller.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Kamloops RCMP or Crime Stoppers. Citizens are reminded not to take any steps to approach the White Chrysler Intrepid if seen.

“We consider anyone associated with the vehicle to be armed and dangerous,” said Mueller.
