The man accused in the cyberbullying case of British Columbia teenager Amanda Todd has penned a letter denying the accusations against him.

Aydin Coban was arrested in the Netherlands last year and is suspected of possessing child pornography as well as blackmailing and harassing victims over the internet. The harassment centred on naked images of the underage girls. Coban’s lawyer Christian van Dijk took to Twitter to partially post the letter and confirm that it was in fact from his client.

In the letter Coban claims that he is innocent and has been in jail for a year for things he has not done.

“I haven’t been directly charged with the case of Miss Amanda Todd, yet the worldwide media and their audience have been branding me as the monster behind it. They pretend to be the judge, the jury and the executioner while committing character assassination by orchestrating a hate campaign against an individual on a scale rarely seen,” reads a portion of the letter.

The letter was sent to local news agency RTL News, an offshoot of Yahoo News and it was tweeted online by Coban. Todd, who committed suicide in October 2012, was sexually exploited online. Her story gained worldwide attention after a YouTube video surfaced in which the teen held up handwritten signs detailing her tragic story.

Coban faces charges in Canada but it’s unclear if and when he could be extradited to Canada to face those charges.
