Vancouver Police Investigating Two Sexual Assaults in Less Than 24 Hours

One man is in custody following a violent sexual assault in a Vancouver home Thursday afternoon.

Vancouver police say that shortly after noon, an armed man entered a home in Vancouver’s Strathcona neighbourhood and confronted the woman inside. The suspect, who is not known to the victim, attacked her viciously, tied her up, and sexually assaulted her.

Passersby heard the woman screaming and entered the home. A struggle took place between the suspect and the woman and more screams were heard by another passerby. The Good Samaritan also entered the home and held the suspect as others came to help.

Officers were nearby and rushed to the home to take the man into custody. The victim was taken to hospital with significant injuries, but she is expected to survive. The man remains in custody and police will be recommending several charges against him.

This is the second sexual assault took place in Vancouver on Thursday. Early in the morning, a woman was jogging near the UBC campus when she was grabbed from behind and thrown to the ground. She was sexually assaulted but managed to free herself from her attacker. Police say it’s too early to know if the two sexual assaults are connected.
