A state of emergency has been declared in Cache Creek after severe flash floods have transformed roads into rivers and destroyed infrastructure.

As of 4:40 p.m. Sunday evening, the Provincial Government issued an evacuation order for the following areas in Cache Creek.
- 1395, 1303, 1301 and 1291 Trans-Canada Highway East;
- 1505 Stage Road; and
- 1055 Old Cariboo Road (Riverside Mobile Home Park).

— Scan Kamloops (@ScanKamloops) May 24, 2015Residents were advised to leave these areas immediately and to report to the Emergency Services Reception Centre located at 1270 Stage Road.
Meanwhile, an evacuation alert is in place for residents located west of Bonaparte River and north of Todd Road, as well as 978, 986, and 1057 Cariboo Road.

— Devon Lindsay (@diversifiphoto) May 24, 2015According to the Village of Cache Creek, the extreme rainfall lasted for approximately two hours from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Saturday afternoon. The heavy rain carried considerable amounts of sand, soil, and debris into the creek system.
The public works department is currently working to clear debris from culverts and roadways.
Village sewer and water systems have not been impacted. The fire department is available and will respond to emergencies.
Following a disaster assessment, the Province will determine eligibility for Disaster Financial Assistance.
