The RCMP has arrested the suspects who pointed and fired a gun at an officer in New Westminster.

On May 18th, 2015, New West Police attended to a complaint of two people sleeping in a vehicle in the 100 block of Royal Avenue. When they arrived they made contact with the male driver, who pointed a gun at the officer and pulled the trigger. The gun however failed to discharge. A pursuit followed but officers lost sight of the vehicle in Vancouver. Later that day, police recovered the vehicle but there suspects were nowhere to be found.

Through a comprehensive and thorough investigation police were able to identify the suspects and they were arrested in the early morning hours of May 24th. The suspects were located in Camrose, Alberta and arrested without incident.

“We accept that as police officers, we are sometimes exposed to potentially deadly situations we have little control over. The incident on May 18th was such a situation but thankfully our officers were not injured. Knowing that these two individuals not only posed a threat to other police personnel but also to the public at large, we embarked on high priority investigation and were able to identify these two suspects and broadcast their information to other law enforcement agencies resulting in their quick apprehension. “This is not only a great example of the professional response from our front line officers, but also a testament of the dedication and excellent work of our major crime investigators” stated Chief Constable Jones.

The suspect’s identities have not been released as potential criminal charges are pending.
