This little cutie was only five weeks old when she was rescued from a metal recycling dumpster, but she’s got a lot of spirit.

Ella is a tiny grey kitten that was found in a dumpster in a community north of Pemberton. When she was found, Ella had what looked like crush injuries to her front feet and a dislocated vertebrae at the base of her tail. Now at the Squamish SPCA, Ella will probably need several amputation surgeries as well as other medical care.

“Ella likes to roar like a lion—she thinks she’s that tough—and she loves to snuggle with you in her blankie,” says SPCA Squamish Valley Branch manager Marika Donnelly. “She’s a real sweetheart. We just want her to have a chance to live out the rest of her nine lives without pain and hopefully, we can give her a much better second start.”

Likely Ella’s entire left leg will need to be amputated, as well as her tail and a dislocated and broken toe on her right foot. Donnelly says that Ella’s prognosis looks good. Though the small kitten is too small for surgery just yet, SPCA workers are managing her pain and fighting infection with antibiotics.

The cost for little Ella’s medical care are expected to reach $6,750. The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization the mostly relies on public donations to help B.C.’s most vulnerable animals. If you’d like to help Ella and other animals in need, visit the SPCA’s website.

The SPCA is also looking for Ella’s previous owner, and if you have any information, you’re asked to contact the BC SPCA.
