19-Year-Old Smithers Man Identified in Fatal Crash

The BC Coroner’s Service has identified the young man who died while driving on an unpaved road in Northern B.C.

Smithers resident, 19-year-old Trenton Bruhjell, died after the pickup truck he was driving along the Telkwa High Road went out of control and rolled. Bruhjell was rushed to the Bulkley Valley Hospital in the early morning hours of June 21st, but died shortly after arriving.

According to Smithers RCMP, the incident took place just after 3:00 a.m. on Sunday and there were two occupants in the vehicle. Both Bruhjell and a female passenger were ejected from the Ford F150 when the truck rolled. The woman was treated for minor injuries. Police believe speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP Traffic Services continue to investigate this death.
