An evacuation order has been issued for residents northeast of Pemberton due to the Boulder Creek Fire.
Both sides of the Upper Lillooet Forest Service Road from 9 km to the top of the Pemberton Valley are under the evacuation order, in effect the Upper Lillooet Provincial Park.
A state of local emergency was declared for the area in the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
The Boulder Creek Fire is burning approximately 23 kilometres northwest of Pemberton. It is estimated at 500 hectares is size, and is zero per cent contained.
The lightning-caused fire is burning in steep terrain and heavy timber. It is displaying aggressive fire behavior. The blaze is generating a lot of smoke, which is visible from the town of Pemberton and surrounding areas.
There are currently 13 firefighters and four helicopters working to protect the south and east flanks of the fire.
