Two people were extricated from the wreckage of a small plane at Duncan Airport on Saturday.
RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, and the fire department responded to the crash at about 1:30 p.m. Initial reports said that a small, single engine plane had crashed into a sloped area near the runway. The plane reportedly had significant damage.
Two people were on board, a 55-year-old male pilot and a 43-year-old female passenger. Both adults suffered serious injuries in the crash and were extricated out of the wreckage by emergency crews. The two were then taken to area hospitals by ambulance.
Both of those on board the plane are believed to be residents of southern Vancouver Island. The full extent of their injuries are not yet known.
Investigators were at the scene and told the Transportation Safety Board about the accident. The location of the wreckage and the presence of the emergency crews caused the lone uncontrolled runway at the airport to be temporarily closed.
RCMP say that it’s too early in the investigation to speculate on the cause of the crash, but there is no indication of foul play.
