A man on Vancouver Island has been charged with animal cruelty after 22 small dogs were removed from his residence by the SPCA.
Sannich resident Warren "Grant" Rowley is facing charges following the BC SPCA investigation. Constables removed 22 dogs, including Chihuahuas, Pomeranians and spaniels from Rowley’s property between December 2014 and February 2015. The SPCA says the dogs were kept in substandard living conditions, with no natural light or ventilation, among feces, urine and clutter. Some dogs were found in a small shed while others were confined to a bathroom.
According to the SPCA, Rowley voluntarily surrendered 10 of the 22 dogs to the BC SPCA at the beginning of the investigation. The remaining dogs needed to be seized under a warrant after Rowley failed to comply with SPCA orders regarding dental treatment, matting, and unsuitable living conditions.
Rowley's first court appearance is scheduled for August 19th at the Victoria Law Courts. All of the dogs will be rehabilitated, treated, and adopted into new forever homes.
