Allowable annual cut for timber supply will have a chance to be reviewed by the public.
The provincial government is looking for feedback on their discussion paper on the Merrit Timber Supply area. Merritt, Princeton, Tulameen, Brookmere, Missezula Lake, Douglas Lake, Lower Nicola, Osprey Lake and Allison Lake are all included in the region and account for 1.13 million hectares, with approximately 600,000 hectares available for timber harvesting.

The chief forester will review feedback made by the public which will help determine how much timber harvesting can occur. The independent professional review also includes consultations with the Okanagan and Nika’pamux Nations.
The review is a requirement under the Forest Act, which requires the chief forester to determine the maximum amount of wood that can be cut in a supply area at least every 10 years. However, consultations usually begin earlier.
There are 38 timber supply areas in the province and 34 tree farm licences.
