Vancouver Police have now released the identity of a 20-year-old who was killed on Monday night and who was previously charged for manslaughter.

The victim was 20-year-old Samir Mokhtar. Police earlier said that Mokhtar was known to police and on bail for a charge of manslaughter. They believe the shooting was targeted.

A young Samir Mokhtar from Vancouver was arrested in December onboard an Air Emirates flight from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This 20-year-old was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Seattle after a name check found an active warrant for the young man. At that time, this man was wanted in connection to the homicide of 20-year-old Aladdin Ramadan, and Mokhtar had charges of manslaughter with a firearm and accessory after the fact to murder laid against him.

Police have not confirmed that the Samir Mokhtar charged for the homicide of Ramadan was the same one killed on Monday.

Investigators are appealing for more witnesses of Monday’s homicide to call Vancouver Police at 604-717-2500. Officers think that several people were in the nearby Falaise Park but fled after hearing gunshots.

These witnesses may have seen a suspect running to or from the murder and have valuable information to share.
