Two People Dead Following Jet-Ski Incident Near Richmond

Update: The BC Coroners Service has released the names of the men who were killed on the Fraser River.

Two people are dead following a jet-ski incident which occurred near Richmond on Thursday evening.

According to Richmond RCMP, they received a report of a jet-ski adrift and two people floating in the Fraser River at 9:00 p.m. on August 27th. A commercial boat spotted the people and a Canadian Coast Guard hovercraft was deployed. Both people were retrieved from the water and brought to the shore near No. 4 Road and the dyke.

The BC Ambulance Service and members of the Richmond Fire Rescue were also called to the scene and did their best to help the unconscious people, but they were pronounced deceased.

Police confirm that both victims were males in their 50s and were wearing life jackets. They both sustained severe head injuries and police believe that lighting conditions and speed are factors in their deaths.

Foul play is not suspected and the victim’s identities will not be released at this time pending notification of next of kin. RCMP are looking for witnesses who may have information about the incident as the investigation continues.
