Work is underway along Highway 33 and Highway 3 as crews quickly replace 28 kilometres of livestock fencing destroyed by the Rock Creek wildfire.
The fencing along 28 kilometres of the highway needs replacement to keep cattle and other livestock from wandering onto the highways. The wildfire, which is 100 per cent contained, burned in the Rock Creek area in August and destroyed dozens of homes along with the fencing.
"Having livestock fencing along our highways both keeps the travelling public safe and also protects farmers' livelihoods," said Agriculture Minister Norm Letnick. "Replacing the 28 kilometres of livestock fencing that were damaged in the Rock Creek fire is important both for farmers and for those using these highways."
The ministry is working with the BC Cattlemen’s Association in support of local ranchers, and expects the work to be completed in late November.
