Update: Merritt RCMP have requested a change to the detours previously provided. They are now advising motorists to use Pooley Avenue, Coldwater Avenue, or Houston Street.

Original Story: A police incident has forced the closure of Highway 97C between Houston and Menzies Streets in Merritt.

Corporal Dan Moskaluk has confirmed there is an ongoing incident in the area however no details are being released at this time.

Drive BC reports local detours are available along Menzies, Clapperton, and Houston streets. It is unclear when the roads will be re-opened. An update is expected later this afternoon.
