The Fraser Valley Traffic Services has confirmed that a Hope man was the victim of a logging truck crash along the Lougheed Highway on Monday.

The investigation into the fatal collision is ongoing, but police confirm that the victim was a 71-year-old Hope resident. The man was killed when his truck crashed on Highway 7 in Deroche, B.C. at around 12:30 p.m.

When police arrived on scene they found the truck flipped over just after the Nicomen Slough Bridge. While the truck was headed westbound, it ended up in the eastbound lanes.

“Given the magnitude of this crash and the loss of the load, we are fortunate no other vehicles were involved,” said Cpl. Ronda McEwen of BC RCMP Traffic Services. Lougheed Highway was closed in both directions late into the evening as the incident was investigated and the truck and logs were safely removed from the roadway.

The man’s name has not yet been released.
