The leader of the B.C. Conservative Party has resigned after 21 months of leading the party.
Dan Brooks, who resided in Kamloops, gave his notice as leader on Monday, but has been asked to serve by the party to serve temporarily as interim leader until February 20th, 2016.
“It has been an honour to serve the people of British Columbia as leader of the BC Conservative Party, but the time has come for me to pass the torch,” said Brooks.
The B.C. Conservative Party will hold its annual general meeting in Richmond on February, 20th and will immediately begin planning a convention to select a new leader. Brooks says he is stepping down because the time has come to refocus on family and business.
“My resignation opens a range of opportunities for the Party to find new leadership, to reach out to potential Premiers and ask them to come forward to take the helm of the BC Conservatives and transform our province,” added Brooks.
Brooks was born in Vanderhoof and is the owner and operator of Crystal Lake Resort. In 2013 Brooks ran in the provincial election as a candidate in the Nechako Lakes riding, where he received 12.6 per cent of the vote. Brooks than ran for the party leadership against Rick Peterson and won with a 60 per cent majority.
