Three people are lucky to have walked away from a plane crash near Lumby on Tuesday morning.
The de Havilland Beaver took off from the owner’s field, before promptly crashing into the field of a neighbouring property.
“The pilot and two passengers were able to get out of the wreckage with minor injuries—scrapes and bruises,” said Bill Yearwood, regional manager of aviation accidents for the Transportation Safety Board of Canada. “Unfortunately, the aircraft subsequently caught on fire and burnt up.”
According to Yearwood, they are still gathering info from the RCMP and waiting to talk to the pilot.
They are not sure how high the plane was off the ground, but know the pilot was unable to climb on take-off and collided with some trees, causing the crash.
There are no further details at this time.
