Environment Canada is warning coastal B.C. communities to brace themselves for a “series of powerful storms” expected to hit Wednesday night.
The agency issued a special weather statement yesterday saying the storms will bring “heavy rain and strong winds” that will likely last through the weekend.
For western and inland areas of Vancouver Island, this will mean as much as 200 mm of rain drenching communities there. Inner coastal regions can expect more than 100 mm.
Winds will also howl through the province, with exposed coastal areas seeing gusts exceeding 80 km/h during the storms.
The storms are still advancing toward the province, and Environment Canada says it will issue weather warnings and updates as they are needed.
Affected areas will include Vancouver Island, Fraser Valley, Whistler, Metro Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast.
