After heavy snowfall made for an exciting start to the season, tragedy has struck at Whistler Blackcomb.

A snowboarder died after being found unconscious and unresponsive on Blackcomb Mountain.

The 27-year-old man was found near the Arthur’s Choice run and members of the public were able to perform CPR before Blackcomb Ski Patrol arrived on scene.

Crews continued CPR and brought in an AED defibrillator, but the snowboarder was pronounced dead soon after.

RCMP are currently investigating, according to a statement from Whistler Blackcomb.

This comes just three days after Whistler Blackcomb opened for the winter season.
