It’s your chance to own part of the oldest ski resort in Western Canada.

RED Mountain is now up for sale to investors through a capital campaign online.

This means skiers and snowboarders can be an owner of the resort through equity crowdfunding without having to put down millions of dollars.

RED is calling this campaign “Fight the Man. Own the Mountain.” If all goes as planned, visitors will own the mountain, the chairlifts, the lodge, snowmaking and every other aspect of the resort.

“RED started as a ski club that was owned by the community,” explained RED CEO Howard Katkov. “We’re ‘ReBooting’ the Red Mountain Ski Club Community Ownership Model from 1947—only this time the clubhouse will have wireless!”

The campaign is a fight against big resorts which have been dominating small, independent places.

According to Katkov, Vail Resorts has recently purchased Park City, Utah, Perisher, Australia, Wilmot Mountain, Wis. and Whistler. These resorts mean luxury shopping malls, water parks, covered escalators and more.

Katkov argues this “growth” prices out regular ski families.

“RED is an endangered species within the resort world,” he continued. “We have the snowfall, vert and world-class terrain to go boot-to-boot with the Big Guys, but have consciously maintained our mom ’n’ pop/weird uncle feel for over 100 years.

“Think of this as a family investment. We do.”

Round 1 of this campaign is now live. Now, you can put down $1,000 or $10,000 with no commitments.

If the campaign gets traction, RED hopes to offer actual equity and unique perks to those who have signed up to put in money. The minimum offer is $1,000.
