Environment Canada has issued multiple extreme weather warnings for Wednesday in British Columbia and are warning residents to bundle up.

In the Nicola area, a warning is in effect thanks to the very cold wind chill, nearing -35C at Merritt. The windchill will ease up at temperatures rise in the afternoon but will dip down again in the evening.

Extreme cold warnings are also in place in Elk Valley and Yoho Park.

Anyone who isn't dressed warmly is at risk in cold weather conditions and some are at greater risk than others for frostbite and hypothermia including homeless people, outdoor workers, people with certain health conditions, infants and seniors. Drinking alcohol can also increase your risk.

People are reminded to wear warm clothing including synthetic and wool fabrics, multiple layers, warm socks, gloves, a toque and a scarf.

In Kelowna, the temperature is currently -23C, with a windchill of -26C. That temperature breaks the ten-year record for this day in history.

You can look forward to the weekend when temperatures are finally supposed to rise.
