People in B.C. who were travelling on the Coquihalla Highway on Thursday night were in for an interesting experience.

Icy conditions due to freezing rain made the roadway impassible and Highway 5 was closed in both directions between Hope and Merritt.

Many drivers were forced to sleep in their cars.

The Coquihalla is expected to reopen on Friday morning at 10 a.m., according to DriveBC. Check out our full story on road closures in B.C.

KelownaNow will update the story as new information becomes available.
